task 14...

I have two quotes from the programme which i feel fit in well with the question however i would have wanted a better quote from a theorist which i would have wanted to prove right or wrong.

"I am a woman, and I have a gun. And look how he treated me. I can only imagine how he treated his wife(sara sidle)" To what extent are women accurately represented in the crime genre with close reference to CSI:crime scene investigation (las vegas)?

"Lady Heather: when I'm close you watch my lips. Are you losing your hearing?
Gil Grissom: I'm losing my balance." To what extent are women accurately represented in the crime genre with close reference to CSI:crime scene investigation (las vegas)?

Females have usually been perceived and represented as sex objects to fullfill the male gaze in the media, however CSI:crime scene investigation is able to subvert this representation. in the past the two general female images that are seen are, housewive, or whore.these extreem stereotypes left no room for anything in between, or even a realistic image for a woman. Even though CSI
:crime scene investigation represents women as a minority within the programme, they do have major roles which influence many of the stories.women are conveyed with the same presence of men within the programme, allowing a decent female representation.Catherine Willows and Sara sidle are two investigators quite high up in the heirarchy, with Willows second in command, which is not usually seen, however with other central female characters such as lady heather, it re-inforces the idea of fullfilling the male gaze with a "whore".
